Charlie Robert Watts (2 June 1941 – 24 August 2021) was an English drummer. He has achieved international recognition from his role in The Rolling Stones since 1963.

At his tender age, Watts learned his music as a graphic artist. He soon got interested in Jazz music and later joined Blues Incorporated. He also started his role as a drummer in London’s R&B clubs. At the times he had the chance to meet with his future mate Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards. He joined The Rolling Stone in January 1963, while also in charge of the band’s record sleeves and tour stages. In February, he got his first public announcement as a permanent The Rolling Stone member, and he continued his role with the band till he died.

He also earned himself the nickname “The Wembley Whammer” for his jazz drumming style by Mick Jagger. Alongside his role with The Rolling Stones, Watts also performed with his own band, Charlie Watts Quintet, and Charlie Watts Tentet at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.

Watts is considered to be one of the greatest drummers of all time. He got his name at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and the UK Music Hall of Fame along with the Rolling Stones in 2004.
