Leatherface is a fictional figure created by Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel. The character appearance for the famous The Texas Chainsaw Massacre film series.

He first showed up in 1974 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as a murderer of cannibalism and craziness. Along with his family, they kill, kidnap, cook and consume travelers who set out near their property. The name he got from his appearance with a human skin mask to hide his misshape face. He used tools as his weapons, such as hammers and cleavers. But the weapon he got as Leatherface’s signature was a chainsaw to saw victims into pieces. The inspiration came from a real-life killer Ed Gein, who also has a mask out of human skin.

Leatherface got his role in only The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. He has never been the main villain, cause his action depends on the family’s orders. Since Gunnar Hansen takes over the design, many actors and stuntmen have take on the role, often two or more in a single film. The character also has his appearance in other spin-offs, such as comic books, video games, and others TV series. In the year 2015, Leatherface was designed as a playable character in Mortal Kombat X, and Dead by Daylight in 2017.
